About Durlach
Durlach is the oldest district of Karlsruhe and exudes an unmistakable charm with its cobbled streets and historic buildings. It was once the residence of the Margraves of Baden-Durlach and thus the political and cultural center of the region for a long time. If you stroll through the historic old town, you will discover winding alleyways, lovingly preserved half-timbered houses and the imposing Karlsburg castle, which now houses a museum, among other things.
An absolute highlight is the Turmberg, which rises majestically above Durlach. Whether it's a sporty hike or a relaxed ride on the Turmbergbahn: once at the top, you are rewarded with a fantastic view over the entire fan-shaped town and the surrounding area. During the warmer months, cozy cafés and wine bars in the small side streets invite you to linger, and all year round, the colorful mix of traditional crafts, modern stores and hospitable residents makes Durlach's special flair shine.
Thanks to its good connections, Durlach is perfectly integrated into the life of the city as a whole. Nevertheless, the district has retained its independence and enchants visitors and locals alike with an unbeatable combination of history, culture and regional joie de vivre. Past and present meet here - and create a charming coexistence that makes Durlach one of the most popular districts in Karlsruhe.
