Stövchen - The hammer in the Waldstraße

While tarte flambée after tarte flambée is served in the evening and cocktails are diligently mixed in the laboratory, tomorrow you will mainly see the famous hammer breakfast - often in a double version, called the "Doppelhammer". The teapot in Waldstraße is already something of a cult!
When you see it on the table in front of you, you're amazed. For less than three euros, you can actually get two bread rolls, crispbread, sausage, cheese, butter, egg, jam, quark, fruit and something sweet. (e.g. a Knoppers) You would compromise on quality for the price, but you don't have to. It tastes good, and if you're sitting outside in the Stövchen's beautiful beer garden on a warm summer's day, it tastes even better :)
For the health-conscious, the Hammer breakfast is also available as a Fitness Hammer. A delicious combination of wholemeal rolls, crispbread, quark, honey, egg, fruit, yoghurt with sauce and nuts. Of course there is plenty of choice of coffee and tea. On certain days there is also cake.
And what about those who don't like much in the morning? For example, you can choose between muesli or a croissant (also with butter and jam).
There's something for every taste and every appetite and the prices are - as you'd expect from Stövchen - simply great.
The opening hours are good, with the doors opening daily at 09:00. The target audience is not those who feast here before work. Sometimes that's a bit of a shame.
The Stövchen offers a surprising amount of space. You might not realize it from the outside. The front area is rather small, but there is also a room at the back and the patio is not used. In summer, you can sit completely outside or use the covered terrace. In winter, the terrace becomes a conservatory so that not all the space outside is lost.
The teapot is cult for various reasons. People meet here to eat popcorn, drink whiskey, have cocktails mixed or watch Tatort with the others on Sunday evenings. It's a highlight in the city center. The whole Waldstraße is somehow cult.
HOW TO GET TO THE STÖVCHEN
Stövchen is located just before the end of the southern Waldstraße. This narrow street doesn't really offer many options. There is a little space for bicycles in front of the Stövchen. But you should have a stand for your bike. There is not much space for parking, the few spaces are always quickly taken and should also be reserved for local residents. But there are a few parking garages within walking distance. The Europaplatz/Postgalerie train station is also not very far away.

"Amazing German food, great portion sizes. Great beer, and friendly and helpful staff. Was in the area for 5 nights and ate here 3 of them would have been 4 nights but the place was packed one night so couldn't get a table. Highly recommend it for any other out of towners if I'm back in the area I will definitely be back."

"This place is perfect if you don’t feel like pulling out that old box of Frozen Food from your freezer and cooking it, but rather have this establishment pull their Frozen Food from their freezer and warm it up for you. Quality and flavour is not something to be expected here. If you want a cheap meal just to fill your stomach up, this might be it."

"Authentic german restaurant, with great food and beer. 🍺 the food was delicious, the waiter was super nice and helped me pick the beer by giving me two different options to choose between for free. The flammkuchen was one of the best I’ve had."

"The food was excellent. I tried the classic flammkuchen but for sure I coming back to this place. Lemonades are also great. Good portions. For someone with standard hungry should be enough. The people are very gentle and speak English. They are fast, accurate and kind people. The place, at a glance, looks like a normal bar but it is not. It has a lot of tables and it is suitable for families, friends groups and even for a individual normal meal. It is somehow “dark”, but that is part of the flow. 10/10"
